Young Naturalists Week 5
Throughout their fifth week at Shedd, the Young Naturalists have learned about sharks at Wild Reef, cleaned up a beach nearby, and thought about qualities that make a good interpreter. The Young Nats have shared their thoughts on the Young Naturalist Program, as well as their advice for future participants.
From the Young Naturalist Program, I love that I meet new people everyday. I enjoy talking to them about all the animals that I like. Also, I enjoy teaching people about animals that we have here at Shedd. I have learned so much, and I am very grateful for this opportunity. For next year’s Young Nats, I would advise them to let loose early, because it will make interpreting easier.

I think that the Young Naturalist program is great! The program consists of people around the same age getting an opportunity to work with something they like. My advice for the future Young Naturalist is to watch out for the HERMIT CRAB POOP!

I think that the Young Naturalist Program is a good program in the sense that you not only grow intellectually, but you also grow as a person. I’ve also learned how to be confident and calm when speaking in front of an audience.

I think this program is ingenious! It allows students to enhance public speaking through interesting topics. There’s something here for everyone, and no one goes home without having learned anything. In the end I have made some really great friends, and I owe it all to the Young Naturalist Program.

I think the Young Naturalist Program is a fantastic program, because it gives people a chance to work with animals, and have live encounters with them. The advice that I would give the Young Naturalist next year is to study, study, study! It’s a piece of cake if you remember to sometimes joke and interact with the people and….BE LOUD!
-Marcell M.
So far, the Young Naturalist experience has been really good. It has been as much fun as I expected it to be. Also, going on the floor has become a lot easier, which I’m happy about. I’ve also gotten to be friends with the rest of the Young Naturalists, which is really nice. For the future Young Naturalist, I’d just say to be what your job is, Natural! Also, don’t worry so much about what you’re doing, because you’ll learn everything well enough soon.
