The generally sunny and warm Florida climate has undergone a severe cold stunning event, which has stranded over 3,500 sea turtles across the state’s coast in a very short period of time. Abbey Grobe, a certified veterinary technician (CVT) on Shedd Aquarium's animal health team, has joined Dr. Nancy Mette and her staff at a sea turtle rehabilitation center in Gumbo Limbo, Florida to assist with the intensive health care, including surgeries, medical therapy and TLC, that is needed to help these stranded turtles heal.

Puiji’s calf turned 21 days old on Monday, and we can say with assurance that he’s achieved another big milestone: visible weight gain. It’s the proof we needed to establish for sure that he’s thriving and growing, and we think the baby blubber looks pretty good on him.
It’s no wonder he’s gaining weight. The calf now has three females looking after him and nursing him. Besides Mom Puiji, who is still the main go-to girl for milk, and Naya, who is a doting and dedicated “auntie,” Mauyak has been introduced into the calf’s social group.
