Beluga calf update - the wraps come off!

Calf wall The wraps come off the beluga calf today with the removal of the privacy wall around Secluded Bay. While the underwater views of the belugas from Polar Play Zone are great, you will definitely want to see the little guy, with mom Puiji and "auntie" Naya, from topside.

The privacy, or birth wall, which features decorative line art of Pacific Northwest animals on translucent pastel backgrounds, was one of the husbandry improvements to the reimagined Oceanarium. It has provided the much-needed private environment – a truly secluded bay – for mom and calf during the first critical months without the need to close one end of the Oceanarium to guests. The calf has passed many major milestones and is looking great! We still waited until the huge spring-break crowds subsided before letting him get used to seeing guests from a new angle. But from the way Puiji and Naya enjoy people-watching, the calf will probably be curious about and comfortable with new faces. Visit soon!
