Teacher Feature: Paula Dell
Shedd Teacher Council member, Paula Dell, is expanding her lifelong learning in Antarctica! Your classroom can connect with her during her journey.
Paula has been accepted into the PolarTREC program. PolarTREC connects teachers with researchers for unique learning experiences to tie back to the classroom. Funded by the National Science Foundation and administered by the Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS), teachers join teams of researchers to take part in various projects through different expeditions. Paula will be working with a scientist from University of Alaska - Fairbanks (Kristin O'Brien) studying the cell biology of Antarctic icefishes this spring.
She recently returned from Fairbanks, Alaska where she took part in a week-long training for the upcoming expedition. She will be on the expedition from April 13 through June 12, 2011. She will be connecting with her students back at Lindblom Math and Science Academy in Chicago throughout the experience. You and your class can connect with Paula during her expedition with live conferences from the Antarctic; the "Ask the Team" button on the site allows for students to send her questions and notes. Visit the PolarTREC website to find an overview of her expedition, read Paula’s blog and find resources for the classroom as they are developed by the team.
