Dolphin Calf Update

Please read our most recent update about the dolphin calf.

Dolphin-and-Calf Blog Tique’s calf is 3 days old. Mom and calf continue to do well. We are, however, cautious in our optimism until the calf begins to nurse from Mom—the next big milestone to achieve. The calf certainly has the idea, and Tique is doing her best to help the calf find her mammary glands, but getting the hang of nursing while swimming can take time. Over the weekend, our marine mammal and animal health experts decided to take the precautionary step of giving the calf Mom’s milk, which contains colostrum for its immune system plus lots of high-calorie nutrients. Our trainers and vets continue to monitor Tique and her calf around the clock, and they’ll feed the calf Mom’s milk until it begins to nurse on its own. We appreciate everyone’s well wishes. We’re letting the calf team get on with their important work, and we’ll be back with an update on Wednesday afternoon.
