Penguin Awareness Day

PenguinsIt’s Penguin Awareness Day, and here’s someone who’s all dressed up and ready to celebrate. Why not schedule a Shedd trip soon to visit this bird and the other Magellanic penguins, as well as the rockhoppers, in Polar Play Zone? Kids can even put on a penguin costume—or just wear black and white.

Today is also a time to think how we can protect penguins, some species of which are threatened or endangered, from oil spills, warming ocean temperatures, entangling marine debris and depleted food sources due to human overfishing. Planning sustainable seafood meals using Shedd’s Right Bite wallet card is one way to help penguins and their environment. We love watching penguins zoom through the water or slide on the ice, but we never want to see them slip away.
